The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Fresh XinXP Pro (vendor installed) IBM T30 is not happy...

Hi all-

I'm in the process of trying to tweak 2 new IBM T-30's for my bosses kids.  The laptops shipped with WinXP Pro and the first thing I did when I got them was pull 1 out and start the process of updating service packs and patching for Blaster.  This all seemed to go well and the laptop chugged right along.

I then added McAfee VirusScan 7.0 (enterprise) to the Laptop and that too seemed fine.

Today I had a few minutes so I was going to install MS Office XP and when I tried the installer hung at the very start of the install - "preparing to install"...  Since then I've been having a ton of odd issues with the machine.

The machine will not allow me to get to the networking control panel properties or the "system" properties, both of which I tend to access by using the right mouse click on "my network place" and "my computer".  I can get to properties and click it and then I get an hourglass and then nothing.  I also cannot uninstall McAfee VirusScan either.  This process hangs as well.

Lastly, when shutting down the OS I keep getting "rundll32.exe" errors that hangup the shutdown of the machine.

I'm not sure if I applied some bad MS patch which is a no-no or what, but this things running very poorly and I'd love it if someone knew what the deal was...

I may also just upload the image of the untouched machine to my Ghost server and reimage this one and just cut my losses...

Any help appreciated.
