Question

Citrix - Cannot change display?

Asked by: rick81

I have a citrix client and i want to change the display settings from 256 colors to 16-bit or 32.  I can't change the settings, doesnt give any options, nor can i change the pixel settings.  Scroll just wont move.  I have tried logged in as an administrator same result.  Some client machines have this problem others are set to 16-bit which cannot be changed either.  The funny thing is they're using the same display driver and monitor on all clients.  Any ideas??  Could this be a user related issue.

Sounds like client settings ...  do you know how it's setup on the server ?

I don't think it's a user related issue.

I've found out how to adjust the settings.  Before you actually log on and connect to citrix you can select the c/panel option and adjust it from there.  I adjust the pixel size and set the color settings to the same as the other clients which have the settings i want.   Yet stilll it displays 256 colors.
Any other suggestions?

Open up citrix program neightbourhood, right click the properties on the connection and click options. The bottom 2 settings are the window properties for the connection. As well, you may want to update the clients to the latest version 7.00

Yes, brad is absolutely correct.  Did it work?

by: rick81Posted on 2004-03-15 at 22:21:40ID: 10603775

It didnt work but i found the window option and changed it to 16 colours.
Now when i connect i get this error msg, "The following requested video mode was not available 800 * 600 *4 BPP.  The video mode has been set to the following mode 800 * 600 * 8BPP.
Video mode for existing sessions cannot change.

Any ideas, i am not familar with citrix watsoever.
Can someone talk me through this step by step.

Thankyou.

Try going into the Citrix Manager on the server, right click the top setting that says "citrix xp" and select properties. Check the maximum memory size and crank it up if it's too small IE 5MB and select degrade resolution first instead of degrade color depth first.

by: MustangbradPosted on 2004-03-16 at 05:12:28ID: 10605736

Oh yeah and your might not be able to do 16Million colour depending on the feature release on the server itself, 8 might be your max.

by: steve_newbyPosted on 2004-03-18 at 04:17:22ID: 10623120

It's at the server that the setting needs to be changed.  You need to go into the connection properties for the ICA configuration and change the resolution/colour depth there.

r u sure steve?  Some clients have the display settings i want.  Its the others im having problems with.  All clients are running off the one server

by: steve_newbyPosted on 2004-03-19 at 01:44:49ID: 10631649

Are all clients using the same version of the client software?
What happens with a freshly installed client does that have the same problems?

by: rick81Posted on 2004-03-20 at 22:37:28ID: 10643054

I found the setting.  right clicked the connection tab button at startup, chose edit then the window tab and changed the color settings to 16 from 256.  This has set the display to how i want it.

Thanks anyway ppl.  how do i close this question off?

If you are finding that this issue is limited to specific computers, then it is most likely the way the Citrix Program Neighborhood connection is set up on each workstation. If you are finding that this is happening site-wide, this is most likely as it is set up on your server:

Open the Citrix Program Neighborhood
Right click your settings for your connection (on the server or workstation)
Go to "Custom Connection Settings"
Click the Default Options tab
Change your "default settings" as needed.
