  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. Windows won't boot.

I recently bought a new 160GB hardrive and was trying to copy the contents of my old 40GB harddrive onto it. In the middle of the copy (using western digital data lifeguard) the power went out. Now when i try to boot with the 40 GB, which was working before the power outage, it just sits at the "microsoft windows XP" screen and won't boot into windows. I have a lot of stuff on the 40GB hard drive, but I put windows on the 160GB and i can read off of the 40GB and the data is still all there, the windows install just must have gotten corrupted, and my programs won't run since they aren't in the registry of the 160GB and i don't want to reinstall all of them. How can i repair the windows install so that it will boot correctly to the 40GB?
