Question

Product Activation grace period has expired Windows XP

I have recently created an image with “drive Image” and ran Sysprep now all  pc’s “DELL” have a message “Product Activation grace period has expired”
Why is this ? is it  because of the OEM dell winows Xp ? if so how do I fix this ?

you need to build the source from a volume licenced CD

Yep, got to use the correct media and then ensure you have the sysprep.inf completed to include the following section:

[UserData]
    ProductID=xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx
    FullName="J Bloggs"
    OrgName="Your Company"

Is there a way I can activate these 5 PC’s and then recreate my image with the correct CD for future use or is there no way around this for these 5 PC’s but to re-Image them ?

Boot into SAFE MODE
(that's the F8 key) and open regedit.exe
Locate this following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\
change the "RegDone" key value fron 1 to 0

Then find this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon\
change "Activation Required" key value from 0 to 1

reboot and see if you are prompted for registration, in which case you can put your valid license key in and you'll be ok. I'm not convinced this will work though as your Corporate License key will only work with the Volume License edition of the media (I believe, never used anything other than Vol. Lic. myself).

Would definately be safer to rebuild the machines in my mind. You don't want a mix of XP OS's on users desks as when problem arise you'll always be wondering if that's the problem!

Mmmm When I made the same mistake I just re-imaged them with volume licenced Media - in the time it takes you to hack 5 registries and test the machines you could have rebuilt the image :)

If I have valid licenses can't I just click on activation for these 5 be done ?

I recreated the image with the correct CD & activated the 5 five I did with the incorrect  CD on the internet
