Browse All TopicsWe have just rolled out Windows XP Pro clients and Windows 2003 server backend.
Under NT4 we had a custom written ADM file (Policy used via poledit) to set the properties of the default screensaver (ssmarquee). The policy set the text, colours, font size etc etc , as we use this screensaver to issue company messages to all PC's.
Working with GPO, I can set some of the basic screensaver settings via the system.adm file, but cannot customise any of the marquee settings.
I have tried using the old ADM file, but the settings are still not carried acorss.
The settings being picked up seem to come from :
HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop and
HKCU\Control Panel\Screen Saver.Marquee
If I set the ADM file to write here, then none of the options are listed in GPO.
If I set the customised entries to goto the same place as the other entries in System.adm (the default ones), they get written to :
HKCU\Software\Policies\Mic
HKCU\Software\Policies\Mic
However, they are not being picked up.
I've been looking at this all dsay, going round and round in circles and am ready to throw the PC out the window !!!
Can anoyone help please.
Thanks
Ian

Right,
Have taken the ADM file mentioned above, and loaded it into GPO.
No options are configurable for it oin GPO.
Removed template
Amended template adm file to include the settings
loaded template
Assigned template to my test GPO, and assigned that to the test OU
I am the only PC in the OU and am an administrator
Logged off, rebooted, logged on.
Screensaver settings still not being copied across.
They get written out to the registry to :
HKCU\Software\Policies\Mic
HKCU\Software\Policies\Mic
The entries being picked up by my PC come from :
HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop and
HKCU\Control Panel\Screen Saver.Marquee
So, still no further forward.
Ian
Aloha Ian.
The GPO Editor tool by default only shows "policies" (HKCU\Software\Policies\* in your example. You have to unsuppress the display of settings that don't fall under that registry key, assuming you're making your customizations from Administrative Templates.
1) Open the GPO Editor
2) Select the GPO you'd like to manage
3) Right click on "Administrative Templates" in the User section (you might have to left click to select it then right click to get the context menu)
4) Uncheck "Show policies only" - also ensure the "Show configured policies only" is unchecked - it is by default
Now you should see your custom entries, even though they aren't under the policies key
hth
Aloha!

all settings like this on 2000/2003 are handled through GPOs (Group Policy Objects) Open up active directory users and computers on any Domain controller and set this up using a GPO,, make sure the users who need this GPO have read and apply GPO rights.
