The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

explorer 100%

Asked by alanmadden in Operating Systems Miscellaneous

hello all,

Windows XP SP1.

Cideamon.exe. and Explorer.exe are causing my processor to run at 100%.

Its completely random when it happens. it happens whether im connected to the web or not.

The Explorer process on my machine usually runs around 20,000K, but when this problem occurs it begins to rise to around 80% and the processor graph rises to 100%  and remains there.it can remain like this for ages or only a few minutes then go back to normal.

i can shutdown and restart the explorer process- but this is only a temp fix

am using trend micro internet security - it picks up no virus as does the web based trend micro housecall, panda online scan and the mcafee website.is it possible any old virus cleanups may have left something behind that cant be identified?

spybot picks up nothing as does spysweeper and spyware blaster.

in msconfig i have minimal applications starting up.

i do use kazaa - is it possible im being hacked or someone is triggering something on my pc through kazaa? i do not download any dodgy programs or double extension filenames. -

I do have all bad ports locked through spybot.

1 i have turned off indexing service (cidaemon) - the problem only appears to happen around half the time it was.

What can it be?

Can I repair or replace the explorere process from the wqin xp cd.

kazaa may be to blame but ive been using it for years with no problems,

at worst im being hacked at best i have corupted windows files.

any comments anyone.

is it a rebuild of windows or a quick fix?

this is ruining my pc so any help appreciated.
