Reformatting 2 HDD's/ Installing XP

I'm getting ready to reformat the 2 HDD's in my computer and then install XP to C:\. I know this is amazingly simple, but I just want to be sure I have it straight. I have the XP installation disk, the COA and the product key. I'll boot into the recovery console and type 'map' to get the drive letters, then I'll type 'format C: /fs:ntfs' or just 'format C:'. What's the difference between these commands? Will the first just go ahead and format the drive as NTFS? If I used the second command, when I install Windows, will it give me the option to format it in NTFS? Also, can I wipe both HDD's, both of which I want to be NTFS, then reboot and install Windows on C: and leave the other one alone? My slave drive is partitioned once and I know I can delete the partition when Windows wants the directory to install to, but how could I get rid of the partition before reformatting the slave drive?
