LAPTOP INFORMATION : Dell Laditude Pent. II 400 MHZ
OS(OPERATING SYSTEM) : Windows 98 (not installed)
AVAILABLE DRIVES : cd-rom, floppy, docking, ethernet, networking (currently down)
HARD DRIVE : 2.4 GB (just installed)
::THE PROBLEM::
I have recently bought new hard drive with in my budget, 2.4 GB for $45.00,
My windows 98 installion CD is not working, (CD broke in peaces in side cd rom drive) I have an installion floppy disk (A:/) I have to load my Dell Resourse CD for my WIndows XP that was bought in April 2004 to load MS DOS. by doing so this messes up my Laptop, because i type c:/ dir and comes up the same as the A:/ dir as well as the B:/ Dir E:/ and sometimes A:/ is the CD ROM. i tried to upload this floppy has not worked. the system knows that its windows 98 because of the fact when i load any disk it says "Loading Windows 98 drivers" <--from my resourse CD.
READ CAREFULLY!!
THINGS THAT I HAVE TRIED!!
1. typed the following FDISK on A:/ and C:/ and B:/ and hit enter.
RESULTS:"No fixable files found"
A:/
2. Loading Windows 98 CD
RESULTS: shattered
I am getting very annoyed at this system. I can not throw it away, because it is not mine, i am fixing it for a friend. It wouldnt even turn on when i first got it running. the Power supply was disconnected. that failure was caused by being dropped. I have replaced with a new hard drive, as the other one was opened by some one else. (dents and Sratches on cover, finger prints on hard drive itself)
If you can assist me on geting this PC running, OR finding people that can with NO COST i would greatly appreate it. Again, points will be added to your nick in later date. after i am able to recive more points. I PROMISE YOU! and if i don't within the first month, get a hold of me. I'll be here helping ppl.
