The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Norton I.S 2005 ccApp.exe problem

Asked by Rich_19 in Operating Systems Miscellaneous

Dear Experts at Experts Exchange,

I have a problem with norton Internet security 2005, i recently re-installed my pc (Windows XP with SP2) and then installed Norton Internet Security 2005 for the first time (ever), this i installed as one of the first things on the new re-install of windows, it was working fine and i updated it fully with Symantec so it would be fully up to date.

I then started installing some other applications and it was still working fine, and then i configured the email accounts on MS outlook express for myself and another user, (i was just connecting to the NTL [ISP] mailbox so that i could send and receive emails), i then sent an email to the other user and vice versa, and it worked fine my user and the other user could send and receive emails fine. Then when i logged on to another user after i had done all that i got a 'windows installer' dialogue box appear and then a warining message from Norton Antivirus 2005 appear saying "Norton AntiVirus 2005 does not support the repair feature please uninstall then reinstall", i checked to see if this only occured on this user (there are three users, two of which use outlook express) and it didn't, it was now happening on all the users.

I then investigated into what the problem could be despite Noton telling me to re-install. i found out that it was an .exe file named ccApp.exe that was causing the windws installer and the warining message to appear, this was located in the "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared" DIR, i then looked on the net for some solutions into what the probelem might be and to what might be causing this problem, unfortunately i did not find any solution to this problem and nor a cause to the problem, i thought that it might be a currupt file so i tried to copy the ccApp.exe file from the CD to the Directory to where it was, this did not work :-(   (i didnt think that it would solve it but i thought that there was no harm in trying). I was thinking of anything else i could do, but i coudln't, i then had no choice but to re-install Norton Internet Security 2005.

Once again it was working fine, i was just installing some applications and then the message popped up out of no where exactly the same thing, i am at a loss and i am reluctant to re-install Norton IS 2005 again as it takes ages to fully install and update. i cant find a cause to the problem and am wondering if anybody would be able to help me in what i can do to solve this problem.

I would really appreciate if any one could shed some light on what to do, this would make a good xmas prezey from EE ;-) lol.

I can only award 270 points for this as this is all i have but i will award an 'A' grade to whomever can help solve or assist to my problem, or help to prevent my problem from happening.

Many thanks in advance. :-)

P.S  The ccApp.exe file, is a file that runs on start up and is used for the auto protect and email protection in the Norton Antivirus 2005.
