Download and place this file in Windows\System32 directory

You could also run the System File Checker, sfc /scannow from the Start > Run box.  You will need the Windows XP cd-rom to complete the process.

how do i do any of these  when windows doesn't load?

by: mgh_mgharishPosted on 2005-03-25 at 00:04:00ID: 13628406

Try to boot from SAFE MODE.

If that doesn't work
Download the file in another system, put it on a floppy/cd. Goto your system, if you have a bootable disk, boot using that and to to DOS.

Then place that file in Windows\System32 folder

Ahh, well the easiest thing to do would be a repair install of windows xp.

Simply get a bootable Windows XP cd with your version (Home or Professional)

Insert it into the drive, check your bios settings so your computer will boot from cd.

Boot to the cd, press ENTER at the welcome screen and when you are prompted, choose to repair the found installation.

XP repair install steps...

But I would say that it might not be useful because, if it is caused by a virus, then again the same would happen.

Your best bet is definitely the sfc /scannow option.

Click Start  > Run

in the box type "sfc /scannow" without the quotation marks.  Windows will then ask you to insert your XP CDROM.  It will then scan the machine for all missing/corrupt system files.

Hope this helps.

Hello,

lsass.exe is a system process of the Microsoft Windows security mechanisms. It specifically deals with local security and login policies. However this souinds like a virus problem, I would try to do a repair instalation off of you win xp disk, if this is a virus its not going to help, try running an online virus checker, then do a repair instalation by booting off of the win xp disk

Last known good configuration seems to have fixed the issue in most cases; since it hasnt worked in your case try the following:
Before an inplace upgrade; a parallel install or a rebuild - try expanding the indicated dll file from the recovery console.

You ask for it to be closed in the community support bit.

Too bad you had to do a reinstall though :(

Hi
I also had this problem, BUT even after deleting all partitions, re-creating them, formatting the HDD, then using client's disaster recovery CD set to re-load Windows XP (unsure if SP2 but doubt it).
I thought re-creating partitions would fix this but apparently not... any ideas?
Thanks, Mike

I would get a hold of a boot ISO image with the old school DOS tool FDISK.EXE.  When you boot to the cd, type in FDISK /MBR and try to restore again.

Also, if you can, attach this hard drive into another computer as a slave or secondary hard drive and run a virus scan on it.  There might be a possibility there is a boot sector virus present.

Thanks, but unable to perform "official" repair as client only has disaster CD, not proper XP CD.  I did however try to swap the HDD for another spare that I have here, reformatted and rebuilt, and interestingly, this gave a fast blue screen error before restarting, so I think it could be more hardware than software.  Reckon it's either a duff memory stick or part of the motherboard is failing...

You might want to try buying a cheap motherboard, processor, RAM and a hard drive.  This will classify as a "new computer" so you can buy an XP Pro SP2 oem cd.  Do you have the exact STOP error code, such as 0x000000D1 (that is 6 zeros)?
