me partition table corrupt

I have a old windows ME hard computer, that I upgraded with with more ram and a new hard drive, I put WINDOWS 2000 on the new hard drive ( only works if the new 40gb drive is slave ... on master it wont work ), but when I attach both Hard drives and boot the 2000, I cant read the ME drive ! ( 4 GB fujitsu ) Windows 2000 says the drive format is raw, and I need to format. When I boot from the ME dirve everythig is fine, only ME cant do NTFS so I cant copy out my data !

I tried putting the ME drive on Primary and Secondary, on Slave and master, and even with Knoppix !

Even in Knoppix, the ( quit bootable ) ME draive is detected as RAW and unpartitioned.
I used some of the toolz and got my whole partiton table screwed up.....
and ME doesn't boot up anymore

is there a way to correct this problem without haveing to buy tools and utilitys
