The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. Disaster Recovery/RAID/Intelligent Disaster Recovery..... *I read previous posts..just wanted some more thoughts

I am trying to come up with a strategy for disaster recovery in an environment that I did not configure. The first Server is using software RAID --- has 4 drives.  2 for the OS (2000 server) that are RAID1 and 2 for user folders, also RAID1. The second server (hardware RAID) has 4 drives at RAID 10 (both OS and data). Third server is hardware RAID 5 across 3 drives. All data (including system states) are backed up on tape. My big priority is to not have to rebuild server OS/environment from scratch in the event of a failure/hardware/software/intrusion;  From reading earlier posts and doing research online, I think I have my best option, but I was hoping for additional thoughts.

Current approach = install os and veritas (in different directory) --- restore sys. state ,etc from tape.

Proposed solution:
Upgrade my version of Backup Exec and purchase Intelligent Disaster Recovery, from my understanding I would be able to do a complete system restore almost the same as I would restoring a ghost image to a machine.  Also after talking to Veritas/Symantic,  I would want to purchase the "Replication Exec" add-on that would allow me to (we have one spare server with a configuration like no other) restore one of my downed servers to this spare server regardless of different hardware.
