I also found this site while searching but it is not what I am looking for.

X:\Folder_name\ /exclude

This one excludes only that folder.
I just want to exclude file extensions , like *.jpg or *.wav. So if the user will do a backup, these extebsions will be skipped/ignored/excluded/ will be out of bkf file.

You have to configure it manually on "exclude file types" (tools/options), "Files excluded for all users". Seems it lacks the switches for those options.

You may be able to add the extensions for each user (instead of all) using a batch or AD membership/policies during logon script. This way you will still be able to backup everything if you login.

But I don't know were those settings are stored... I've searched registry, unsuccessfull.

Luck,

Like SoyYop have state, in NTBACKUP, go to tools-->options, under Exclude Files.
Look at Files excluded for user Administrator: this will exclude the EXTENSION that you do not want to backup

Refer to this articles on additional information when using the File Filtering

Registry key that stored tools-->options-->exclude files is at

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\BackupRestore\FilesNotToBackup\

Value: NTBackup
Data: C:\*.jpeg /s C:\*.wav /s

The value and data is from my sample, hope this helps

Cheers

Ok, here I am...

Checking some info on the net, I-ve found the following>

There is a similar ntbackup key for users , on hkcu\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\BackupRestore\FilesNotToBackup

You can use this script to create a multi string value (that's took my time) and add the files you want to exclude for the current user (you can apply it on login script using groups, so your boss can backup his music, or just to HKLM, as posted by FanHan (Thanks, FanHan).

You can check the exclusions using ntbackup, options, etc.
Each line is build as follows:

c:\filename [/s]

c:\            : Root drive
Filename   : Drive, path, or wildcards
/s             : Recursive (c:\*.wav means *.wav on c:\ only, but if you add /s, will mean all subdirectories

'------------------ The Script
Const HKCU=&H80000001 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Const TheKey="SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\BackupRestore\FilesNotToBackup"

Set oReg=GetObject("winmgmts:!root/default:StdRegProv")

ReDim Value(2)

Value(0)= "c:\*.mp3 /s"
Value(1)= "c:\*.wma /s"
Value(2)= "c:\*.wav /s" '

Result = oReg.SetMultiStringValue (HKCU, TheKey, "My Music", Value)

ReDim Value(3)

Value(0)= "c:\*.mpg /s"
Value(1)= "c:\*.mpeg /s"
Value(2)= "c:\*.avi /s" '
Value(3)= "c:\*.wmv /s" '

Result = oReg.SetMultiStringValue (HKCU, TheKey, "My Videos", Value)
WScript.Quit

'----------------- End
