hi everyone!
right after installing longhorn Transformation pack, a box would come up saying insert Win xp cd, summat to do with 'file protection', after clicking on cancel the pc would go sluggish, now i shut the pc down, and after starting it up later a blue screen came up daying 'unmountable_boot_volume
the code at the end was 0x000000ED (0X81F7DE30,0XC0000032,0X0
a mate told me this:
Try this...
1 - Boot using the Windows CD - when the welcome screen is up, hit "R" to drop to the recovery console.
Then type "chkdsk /p" without the quotes and hit enter
When that is done type "fixboot" and hit enter
"Y" and enter at the prompt
Then type "exit" and hit enter
The system will now reboot into Windows
If that doesnt work then reboot using the windows CD again, and type R again to drop to the recovery console, then...
Type "chkdsk /r" then enter
When done type "exit" and hit enter.
This will take longer, but the system should boot back into Windows.
but i cant even do that because, when i put in a win xp cd, it doesnt boot from the cd even though i have set it to boot from cd first in bios. it gets to the windows is loading bit then the blue screen comes up.
how do i bring up command propmt so i can wip the HD clean and install again (last resort) i press f8 and there is no command prompt option just safe mode etc
can anyone help me?

ok heres what to do
go to
http://www.knopper.net/kno
click download
choose your mirror
I picked ftp.kernel.org - its near the bottom
Click accept
righ click on the file KNOPPIX_V3.9-2005-05-27-EN
Save this to the desktop of the computer that you are working from now
when its done downloading record it to a cd - it you have roxio or another burning program install you should just be able to right click on file and choose something like "Record to CD"
It will create a live bootable CD for you - what that means is that you will be running an operating system from the CD.
just start your computer with the CD in
Once it loads up you will be able to see the hard drive and delete the windows folders - usually c:\windows
you will also want to delete boot.ini from which is located i the c:\ folder
Let me know if you have any other questions
i doubt you'll be able to delete those files, or even modify them if they are on NTFS partitions... knoppix wont easily let you do that.
first, disconnect the un-needed drive.. see if the other boots fine.
if you dont care about the data on the drive anymore, get yourself a DOS boot disk from here:
http://ephemeral-designs.c
write that to disk, boot it, and run FDISK, select options to DELETE the partition(s), exit the program but dont reboot just yet...
run "FDISK /MBR", then reboot... now windows XP setup should see your drive just fine...
obligatory warning: with the fdisk proceedure above, you will lose all of your data on the drive that you do it on.
I wouldn't use the fdisk /mbr just yet.
You have an unmountable boot disk problem:
http://support.microsoft.c
CAUSE
Because of the write-pattern optimization in IDE disk drives, the caching routines sometimes write data out of order to keep drive write speeds at the fastest possible level depending on where data is located on the disk. This opens a timing window where the NTFS disk system could have critical tables damaged if a write is not finished. Microsoft has recommended in the past that caching on IDE drives be turned off on programs with somewhat critical data that is stored on the disk or for situations that allow the slight drop in overall speed. Programs with critical data may need to use SCSI drives, which have better control of data transactions.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows XP. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
read that article first, then, if it perists,
If you can find a .dmp file I'll analyze it:
ftp://guest@musics.com/upl
guest
no password
That is your directory, you can upload the .dmp files there are long as they are not too big.
