The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Floppy boot disk to cd boot disk

Asked by mojo_4664 in Operating Systems Miscellaneous

Hi, I have Symantec Ghost Solution Suite 1.0 and am trying to make a boot CD rather than a boot disk. This isn't really important, as it doesn't impact the answer to my question.

Basically, right now Ghost doesn't support making boot CD's so I'm on my own, and I want to make a CD rather than a disk so I can fit more drivers on. The floppy system is already up to two disks with just one network card driver!

So, I have tried both WinISO and Roxio Easy CD Creator to create a boot cd image from the boot floppy generated by symantec (I have done some editing to support the CD drive and added a menu to select the desired network card driver and so on). This works fine. If I burn that image as-is to the CD the computers will boot from it.

However, the floppy did not contain ghost.exe or any drivers as they take up a lot of space. I was using the floppy to generate the boot data, and would simply add the other needed files later. However, after generating the boot data, I dragged the extra folders such as "GHOST" which contains "ghost.exe" and three other folders containing drivers and more configuration data into my project so they would get added to the CD on top of all the boot files from the image. These folders and files are NOT availible once I boot from the disk. All the files that were on the floppy originally are there, but none of the ones I added just before burning. Also, if I check the contents of the cd once I'm in windows, the folders and files I added ARE availible while all of the boot files are not.

My boot system *should* work fine if I can only make the folders and files I want to add availible when booting off the disk. Anyone know whats making my life difficult?

Thanks for any help.
