Spooler subsystem app error keeps recurring after MS fix
I have now fixed the same error on my client's computer at least 4 times, using the fix the MS recommends in their knowledge database for this problem. As soon as I go through the steps to fix and reinstall the printer everything works fine. I need to find out what is happening on the system that keeps reverting it to this print spooler problem.
System specs:
Windows XP Pro, SP2
McAfee Internet Security Suite
Spyware Nuker
My instinct says the problem is related to either McAfee or the Nuker because these apps are updated weekly and the problem tends to happen at the beginning or end of the week.
When I perform the fix I use these steps:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;810894
When I go into the c:\windows\system32\spool\ printers directory there are two suspicious files with recent dates;
00014 (no file extension visible) and 00014.SHD
The file dates correspond with the timing of the print spooler problem, which makes me suspect them. After removing these suspicious files, I check the system registry everything is fine. I then reinstall the (updated) printer drivers and everything works fine. Yet, a week later they will be there again and same problem with spooler subsystem app.
Where could these files be coming from? She uses AIM and Yahoo messenger svcs, and has stopped visiting free Internet gaming sites.
Please help!

I forwarded this link to my client so she could do the fix herself and it worked great! She's back in business and she's thrilled. Now she has the tool to fix this herself in the future, should it happen again (hopefully, it won't).
Great Job - Good Find!

Also another good one is MS antispyware that won't let any suspecious program start till you let it. But I found HijackThis more agresive.
