Yes, make sure you have installed the appropriate version of the driver on the host (especially if you have different operating systems on the two machines). Check you can see the printer on both the local and RDP desktops.
If you are using the MS RDP Client and the client machine has any system other than XP install the latest version of RDC as the biggest changes in the newer version are to do with printer sharing.
Some (especially HP) USB connections seem particularly hard to map it may be worth installing an earlier compatible version if it's a laser. When I get real problems I've been known to physically install the printer on the host, check it works, uninstall and then set up on the client - it's a last resort but it does work!

Make sure the printer is installed on the remote machine - the drivers have to be there or Windows won't know how to translate the print request.
