Now that I was able to put my cd music on i tunes how do I backup up everything

Hi , I think that this is really a question that someone with an i pod could answer or maybe not ?
Its a tough question for anyway without knowlege of apple i tunes .
I wish there was a 1000 point catagory for this question ..
Anyway I have the Apple i pod nano 1 gig and i tunes the lastest version windows xp + I E
Thanks to Experts Exchange I was able to put my cd music on i tunes
And thank you so much again , for your help putting my cds onto the i tunes playlist
Now , I need to backup all my i tunes I purcheased and also the songs I imported to the i tunes library playlist from my cd collection .
(I have five questions on backing up)
Is this what I need to do ?
First create another playlist
In i tunes library source list go to the edit menu > show browser
Click onto the first of my songs in my i tunes playlist
Go to edit menu > choose select all ( highlights them )Then go to the file menu > choose new playlist
and type a new tittle for it
1- I am worried that I will not see my original playlist in the source library column anymore if I do this ?
]Will it replace my original playlist or is it just another copy of my original playlist with a different tittle ?
2- And then in the smart playlist screen , what do I do there ?
3- Kind > contains : protected ? ( just for my music)
(All I need to BU is music , not podcast, or video or data)
4- Limit to 25 is the default ,
Can I change it to 50, 100, or 200 ?
Is it ok to change the default ?
5 - I have an external hardrive which I find easier to use then the dvd burner
But I also have a dvd burner and nero the kind you get free not the one thats $100 .
Should I use the dvd burner instead of my external hdd is it easier or more appropriate to use the dvd burner ?
4- Or does the i tunes have its own dvd burner and am I supposed to use that instead of nero ? Or do I use my Nero?
