Windows did not boot with Bootitng

Asked by bob733 in Operating Systems Miscellaneous

I have Bootitng installed on my system and normally it comes up fine.  I power up, the Dell splash screen appears, then the bootitng screen comes up asking me to select:
Boot (an op system), Maintenence, or Direct boot.  This has worked flawlessly.

However this morning (Thursday), after powering up, the Dell splash screen displayed but the screen then went blank and the bootitng screen never come up.

I powered down and up a couple of times and had the same negative results.  I have not done anything to my system EXCEPT:
The day before (Wednesday), I had uninstalled an HP 5510 all-in-one printer (that was hooked up to  a  print server), and then re-installed it as a usb printer directly to this system.  After the printer was           reinstalled (and working Wednesday), I powered the system down (until this morning when I tried powering back up and had the boot problems).  As mentioned above, I tried powering down and up a couple of time with negative results.
Therefore, as the printer reinstall was the last thing I did to my system before the problems started (on a power on BOOT), I pulled the  printers usb cable out and tried to boot again.

The Dell splash screen appeared, then a 4 line message appeared but went away so fast I could not see what it said.  But then the Bootitng screen came up and allowed me to boot XP.

So, I guess the question(s) are:
1.  Could the printer being hooked up have anything to do with this.  Certainly, I can plug it back in (and I will), but if it is causing the problem, why?   It just occured to me that I have not unhooked the Printserver from the system yet.  Possibly that could be hanging things up so I can also unplug this print server.

2.  Also, is there anyway I can view that message that appeared so quickly.  I know this message never appeared before.
3.  And (as a quicky freebe question), can I turn off indexing services?  I have heard it slows things down.

I am a little leary about trying to reboot until I possibly get some directions from you guys/gals.

Thanks as always,

It's doubtful that you're encountering issues due to a USB printer being plugged in UNLESS somehow your system is trying to boot from a USB device.

If you're really quick with hitting the Pause button on your keyboard, you should be able to read the message.

Lastly, indexing services can be disabled via the Services control panel.  Look for "Indexing service" and make sure to remove it from add/remove programs before disabling.  Personally I keep mine at "manual", as recommended by The Elder Geek (http://www.theeldergeek.com/indexing_service.htm)

Bob,

Are you using a registered version of BootItNG?  If not, how long has it been installed on your PC?  If you have had it for longer than the trial length, the screen will go blank for about 30-45 seconds before the normal Boot options screen comes up.  If you are resetting it before that time that may be the problem.

It is a great program, and well worth the $35 to register if you haven't.  Also, that should solve that problem if this is the case.

Hope it is that simple!

It is registered and I agree, it is great..... well, I am going to plug the usb back in now (and I have unhooked the previously used Printserver).  So, I will see what she does shortly.

I put the printer usb into a slot and it did not boot.  I switched usb slots and now I get a Bootit NG screen (Start UP) with the message:
Syncrhonizing in progress.

What does this mean and how long should I let it run?

Uping the ante to bring in the sharks.

My problem occures whenever I have the HP 5510 All-In-One printer hooked up to the system via USB.  Sometimes it boots, other times it just hangs.  When I unconnect it, the system boots fine.

In the event viewer, I am getting a lot of Warning messages about Microsoft Fax Inilization/termination 32068 and 32026 messages.  I also am getting Userenv 1517 warning messages.

The description of the Microsoft Fax  Event ID 32026 is:
Fax Service failed to initialize any assigned fax devices (virtual or TAPI). No faxes can be sent or received until a fax device is installed.

The Description of the 32068 message is:
The outgoing routing rule is not valid because it cannot find a valid device. The outgoing faxes that use this rule will not be routed. Verify that the targeted device or devices (if routed to a group of devices) is connected and installed correctly, and turned on. If routed to a group, verify that the group is configured correctly. Country/region code: '*' Area code: '*'

My gut feels says this all has to do with the HP All-In-One (which has fax).

Help

Bob

this morning I tried powering up and booting again.  Failed.... the bootit ng screen never appeared.

I powered the machine down and booted again.  this time it worked.

Went to event viewer and under the system there was an error for Service Control Manager at what looks like the first attempt to boot.  It is e ent 7026 which says:

You could have a look at the Knowledge Base here:
http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/kb/category.php?id=52

Identify the failed driver name. Boot recovery console and use the following command to change the startup type of the driver.

enable servicename start_type

You can use the enable command (where servicename is the name of the service or driver to be enabled) to enable a Windows system service or driver.

Use the listsvc command to display all eligible services or drivers to enable. The enable command prints the old start type of the service before resetting it to the new value. You should note the old value, in case it is necessary to restore the start type of the service.

Valid start_type are:
SERVICE_BOOT_START
SERVICE_SYSTEM_START
SERVICE_AUTO_START
SERVICE_DEMAND_START
NOTE: If you do not specify a new start type, the enable command prints the old start type for you.
