VMware ESX, license help

Hi.

Just starting my exploration with VMware ESX. I have the 30 day eval installed and setup the VirtualCenter Management server in addition to the license server on another test machine. Originally after setting up the esx server I used the host based .lic file. I decided after a couple days to go ahead and test the license server and test virtualcenter. I downloaded the .lic files from VMware. There were 3 options. 2 files were for use with a license server and the other for host based licensing. I'm not sure how to handle the license files since there are 2 but FlexLM seems to only allow 1. I have since tried consolidating them into one file after reading on some vmware forums that this is what other people have had to do. In "licensing tools" I imported the new license file, and restarted the service. The current license file (message box along the bottom telling what file it is using) changes to a vmware.lic afterwards. I assume this one is system generated after pulling the info from my uploaded .lic file?

I changed licensing on the esx server to point to the new license server. All seems ok so far, I log into virtualcenter using the infrastructure client and create a new datacenter in virtualcenter and try to add a new host. I get a licensing error...."There are not enough licenses installed to perform the operation".

I've been through the guide a few times and believe I've followed it to the letter, same problem. I'm not sure where to go from here.
