What happens to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER setting when a new user logs on? does it get wiped out or is it persistent between logons? Is there one group od settings in HKEY_CURRENT_USER for each user logon or just one area that is used by all of them.
For exampe: user sally sets the settings in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software
User john logs on: are those settings that sally set still there?
Sally logs back on: Are her old settings still there or have they been wiped out by johns settings?

The link really doesn't answer my questions...though is does give some hints.
I logged on as user A and set VBA settings
then logon as user B and set them
then log back as user A
What I observed is that the settings for a given user are preserved from the last logon, but they don't state this explicitly in the article and I don't know if I can reply on the data being preserved between logons.
HKCU does not save settings between sessions of two different users. The settings you want should be stored in HKLM (local machine). Otherwise you would have to do a loadhive for default user\ntuser.dat in registry editor and manupiulate the same section in order to manipulate the HKCU for multiple people that login to that machine OR you could write a script that uses regini to export that values before logoff and another login script that imports the values.

I did an experiment on an XP machine and on a W 2000 machine.
On my windows XP professional machine, the VBA area was preserved for each user between logons and re-boots.
On windows 2000 it was the same for three user accounts I created: In otherwords, if I changed the settings in one they changed in the other two
Each user as they logon to a computer gets a registry file for them loaded. The inital file is based on the default user settings, local GPO, and domain GPO (if you have domain). When the user logs on, Windows points to the users registry file under HKCU.
Now some of the setting you change, may actually be stored somewhere other than the user's profile (registry file). So depending on what you changed and how will depend on where it stores is.

HKCU registry hive is dynamic. Means, whenever a user logs onto Windows 2K or XP, HKCU loads from the NTUSER.dat file located in the users profile. Each user has its own NTUSER.dat file unless you are using mandatory profile in which the file name is NTUSER.man. When UserA logs on and chnages any settings, his NTUSER.dat gets changed. When userB logs on he gets his own NTUSER.dat file. Similarly for other users
