Have the drives been set up in the RAD yet.
You need to do a minimum config of RIAD before windows can access the drives.

Browse All TopicsWe are trying to install Windows XP on an Intel S5000PSL board that features the Intel Embedded Server RAID technology II. We have used a USB floppy drive to load the drivers (Using F6 to install additional SCSI or RAID drivers). The system reads the floppy and loads the drivers without issue.
Once we hit Enter to continue to the installing Windows part, it asks for the disk again. Having never taken it out of the floppy drive, I hit enter expecting it to load the drivers for a second time, but it pretends to not see the driver disk.
What gives? I cannot install without these RAID drivers!
I even tried to use nLite (www.nliteos.com) to slipstream the drivers, and it STILL asks me to insert the disk.

1) Are you sure you have the right drivers, and that they are unzipped ?
2) Did you check the BIOS as mentioned for any boot options so that the RAID will be the primary Bootable device ?
Did you check the Intel site for any known issues for using this RAID during a windows install ?

I have had trouble with the same. I have to ditch the USB floppy and get a normal floppy drive connected to the board as it would not look at anything else, once I connected the floppy it picked up the disk straight away
Try take the dsik out after first asking, and insert it when asked the second time
This motherboard does NOT have a floppy controller. It requires you to use a USB driver, which I think is incredibly stupid, but nonetheless, the situation.
The Windows XP setup program sees the drivers long enough to partition and format the RAID drives; however, once it starts the installation process and asks for it again, setup can no longer see it. It is almost as if it reassigns the USB floppy from A: to something else, and thus cannot see the floppy disk. What gets me is that even after I slipstream the drivers, it still asks me for the drivers.
Also, it is asking for the "Blah Blah Blah" driver set, which it is getting from the txtsetup.oem file on the floppy. I have verified that the floppy is indeed that by opening the file with notepad.
Help! I need to get this machine off my bench and delivered today!
Update: Intel has offered three solutions.
1. Buy an external floopy (I did this and it failed).
2. Slipstream the drivers. I did this it failed.
3. Use a different version of nlite
4. Use floppy emulation from the BIOS with a USB drive containing the RAID drivers. (Failed).
I am going to try to manually slipstream teh drivers. I will let you know.
PS. Intel blames Microsoft.
It is exactly as I had, twas driving me mad, If I left the dsik in aftert first being asked to insert it the second time round it would not be picked up even if I took it out and put it back in. I had to remove the floppy disk right after it loads the drivers the first time, remove it immediately then put it in and let the drive load the disk when asked the second time.

It was for XP on a PC but there may be something in it that helps..
Here is how I got it to work:
1. Robocopy the XP CD to C:\source on your hard drive.
2. Edit c:\source\i386\txtsetup.si
3. Under [HardwareIdsDatabase] add the following lines, which give USB Floppy support:

USB\VID_054C&PID_002C = "usbstor" #--Sony
USB\VID_057B&PID_0001 = "usbstor" #--Y-E Data
USB\VID_0409&PID_0040 = "usbstor" #--NEC

4. Use nLite to create a bootable ISO
5. Burn to CD
6. Boot, use the F6 method. Install.
Alternatively, you can manually slipstream drivers if you know how to do that. In the end, I used an unattended install with the floppy drivers and the manually slipstreamed RAID drivers to install windows. Went off without a hitch.
I had the same problem. As it turns out, the board comes with the Intel Server Deployment Toolkit 2.0 CD, which is a Linux Live CD that takes you through your setup preferences, and then writes the drivers and installation files to the hard drive. Basically, after formatting your boot partition, boot to this disc, and follow the prompts for installing your operating system.

Is there a compatibility mode option in BIOS? I've had the same thing happen trying to install XP with a computer that had SATA drives, and if I remember correctly there was a way in BIOS to trick the system into thinking you had IDE drives. (Once the OS was installed you could set it back to normal.)
