What is the difference between quick format and full format - apart from the time
Is there a way that I can create a file with all my licence information ect in it so that it performs a full install without me having customize the time etc?

Quick format creates "fresh" logical file system structures, full format will in addition write to each block on your harddisk, so if you suspect a faulty harddrive, a full format may show possible problems.

Yes, this called "unattended installation". There are several ways to do this, but its a bit complex, the MS site http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/deploy/default.mspx is a start.
If its just 1 PC you want to "refresh" from time to time, I'd create a backup image of the clean machine and restore this image in case you need it.

Ans. A Quick format is a basic process to delete all the files...but it doesnt erase the hard drive completely, most of the files can be recovered using any available file recovery software, whereas a full format erases the a hard drive effectively and the files are difficult to recover

I didn't think a format (even a "slow" one) actually erased the files; as I got it, it only deletes the info about where the files are stored. The actual data is still in place, only not accessible, because there is no table to tell the  operating system where they are.

If you really want to DELETE data, you need a more sophisticated program, like a wiping software or running a zero-fill utility several times.

I once tried to reinstall XP and did a "quick" format. Obviously, some files were not renewed by the process, so the reason that provoked the reinstall didn't go away... not until I did a normal format. I'll never try the quick one again - a waste of time.
