The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Slow loading user profiles

Hi folks,

We *appear* to have a problem with slow loading profiles within our Windows 2000/2003 Environment.  A majority of our clients are Windows 2000 running across 2mbit links back to our central site.  Our central site contains all of our user profiles.  We took a standard user profile directory (6 Megabyte or 6,024 Kb) and copied it manually across the 2mbit link to our profile server to get an idea of the speed.  This took 37 seconds to complete which we worked out at roughly 163 Kilobytes / 1309 Kilobits per second) Over a 2mbit link I figured this was a bit slow obviously we have file system overheads but does this seem a little slow to anyone ?

Also we tried the same profile over a network with a 100mbit link back to the central server.  This login *still* took 25 seconds.  This to me was suprisingly slow. We tried logging in rather than the file copy operation alone and this still took around 25-27 seconds too.

I was just wondering if anyone had any comparative data for me to look at (I.e. other peoples experiences of user profiles over similar sized links or environments) or any solutions to this what would appear to be rather slow environment.

I'd be greatful for any help folk could offer.

Thanks in advance,
