Question

What would cause VSS Event ID 12990 warning message everytime I run CHKDSK

Asked by: koujaianh

Keep getting warning messages in Event Viewer whenever I run CHKDSK.
Windows 2003 Server SP1

Source: VSS
EventID: 12290
Description:
Volume Shadow Copy Service warning: GetVolumeInformationW(\\?
\Volume{d6ea6dcb-90d2-11db-be7c-806e6f6e6963}
\,NULL,0,NULL,(0x00000000, , 260) == 0x00000005. hr =
0x00000000

I also notice that both the Volume Shadow Copy service and the Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider service get started.

Does anyone knows what could be causing this?

Good solution.  I checked my drive and found that the system user built into the OS did not have permissions.  Upon giving them it correctly displayed under disk manager and under disk defragmenter.
