1) check Event Viewer in Admin Tools

2)  if it truly seems random, i'd recommend running a memory test to verify you don't have a bad stick of memory.  http://www.memtest.org    .download the iso and burn it to cd, and then boot up on the cd.  you'll know fairly quickly if the memory is bad.

3) if memory is not the issue, and there are no errors in Event Log, verify you have the latest drivers... in particular, i'd recommend updating your graphics driver...

4) outside chance here, but it's possible.... run a hdd utility to verify your drive doesn't have bad sectors.  i'd recommend DFT  http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm
it's made by hitachi, but works on almost all drives.

0x0000000A: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
(Click to consult the online MSDN article.)
Typically due to a bad driver, or faulty or incompatible hardware or software. Use the General Troubleshooting of STOP Messages checklist above. Technically, this error condition means that a kernel-mode process or driver tried to access a memory location to which it did not have permission, or at a kernel Interrupt ReQuest Level (IRQL) that was too high. (A kernel-mode process can access only other processes that have an IRQL lower than, or equal to, its own.)

Experiencing similar intermittent stop error on Dell Dimension 3000.  Cleared the page file, checking other solutions here.  Using XP Home.  VERY interested in ongoing comments in this thread.

Thanks for the input.  Am running memtest on system now.  Will notify
LeeTutor,
There was no mention in error of IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL so I am not going down that road just yet.  I too had researched all I could find on MS site and nothing fit.
Had also cleaned up drive, (temp files, defraged, normal stuff.)
We'll see, thanks again,
4rg

( a note on memtest -- it will run endlessly.  according to the user's FAQ, one pass is usually sufficient to detect errors.  if there are errors, they will show up in red at the bottom of the screen.  at first, this confused me because i started running the test and it immediately had red lines at the bottom... i wasn't sure if they were errors or not.  i took out one stick of memory and ran the test again, and then saw that good memory shows NO red lines on the bottom of the screen)...

and if it is bad memory... check with the memory manufacturer.  some offer life-time warranty on their product.  i was able to submit the bad stick to kingston for RMA without a receipt...

A "stop 0x0000000a" IS an IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

by: 4rgPosted on 2007-08-17 at 06:10:29ID: 19716481

Do you know why the IRQL_... would not show on this system.  I know I have seen it before on other systems.  This sys just shows the stop: 0x... part.  Odd.
Did memtest, no problem.
Just found this, am not onsite to see if it is on system or is part of the high priority items done normally or not.  Will check when I get there and run it.

Ran the above MS fix on system and have not had a problem since.
Thanks for the input.
What do I do about points?

by: 4rgPosted on 2008-01-28 at 06:56:30ID: 20759412

I am giving poiints to LeeTutor as I may have solved this issue myself but have used the above link http://aumha.org/a/stop.htm   and the other information that was provided for two other issues now.  Think that deserves the points for the questions I did not have to ask.
