1) check Event Viewer in Admin Tools
2) if it truly seems random, i'd recommend running a memory test to verify you don't have a bad stick of memory. http://www.memtest.org .download the iso and burn it to cd, and then boot up on the cd. you'll know fairly quickly if the memory is bad.
3) if memory is not the issue, and there are no errors in Event Log, verify you have the latest drivers... in particular, i'd recommend updating your graphics driver...
4) outside chance here, but it's possible.... run a hdd utility to verify your drive doesn't have bad sectors. i'd recommend DFT http://www.hitachigst.com/
it's made by hitachi, but works on almost all drives.
