Vista is slow accessing network shares

Asked by bkesting in Operating Systems Miscellaneous, Windows 2003 Server, Windows Vista

Tags: , , , ,

I have about 60 PCs on an Active Directory Network.  Two of the PCs are Windows Vista Business and the rest are all Win XP Pro.  I just recently replaced an old Linux Samba file server with a new Windows 2003 file server.  The XP machines are accessing the shares on the Windows 2003 server just fine, but the Vista machines really hang when opening a share, opening any file within the share or just to list the contents of the share.

Any settings in Vista or on the 2003 server that might cause these hangups?  I have disabled the share from allowing files offline and have also disabled Remote Differential Compression on the Vista machines and it doesn't seem to help.  Start Free Trial
