The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

How Repair Windows Updates After Installing Service Pack 3?

Tags: Microsoft, Windows XP, Windows XP Professional SP3, Service Pack 3
I have a brand new Dell OptiPlex 330 (Windows XP Professional) fresh out of the box. I instructed Windows Updates to download and install updates as the very first task after installing/activating Microsoft Office 2007 Basic, upon which the following updates were successfully installed:

+ Windows XP Service Pack 3 (KB936929)
+ Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130)
+ Update for Windows XP (KB898461).

Now the following updates are stuck and will not complete:

+ 2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 1 (SP1)
+ Security Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 (KB946983)
+ Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB947801)
+ Security Update for Microsoft Office Excel 2007 (KB946974)
+ Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB946691)
+ Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 Junk Email Filter (KB949037)
+ Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - April 2008 (KB890830)
+ Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framwork, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB928366)
+ Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP (KB947864)

How can I fix Windows Updates so these other stuck updates download and install properly and stop  Windows from nagging (via the System Tray and log off screens) that updates have been downloaded and need to be installed?
