Why  the textbox appears empty?

Dear Sirs
My problem is :
When I must fill a form the textbox appears empty and I cannot select the item I need (Day-Month-Year)as you can see in attachchment 1-I want it to appear as attachment 2.
Waiting for your help to solve the problem I thank in advance
