I'd like to install OS/2 Warp 4.56 on a laptop Toshiba Tecra S5 (or Panasonic CF-52). Both of them have the following controllers:Intel 82801 HEM/HBM SATA AHCI , Intel ICH8M Ultra ATA Storage Controller. Hard-drive: FUJITSU MHW2120BH 144GB
The CD-ROM installation fails with the error: "IBMInt13.i13 found a drive greater than 8Gb."
So I created the 3 installation diskettes and added some new drivers provided by Daniela Engert: Danis506r181 (in replacement of IBM1S506). This driver is supposed to support ICH8 and SATA. Danis144 (in replacement of OS2DASD) and I modified the config. sys file as below. I created a 2GB partition for OS/2 with Partition Magic. In verbose mode, I have the following error when inserting the diskette 2: " Danielas Bus Master IDE Driver for OS/2 Version 1.8.1 Controller :0 Port :01F0 IRQ :0E Status :OK Intel PIIX PATA Hosy (8086 :2850 rev :03) on PCI 0 :31.1#0 Unit :0 Status :OK ATAPI PI04 Model :TEAC DV-W28ECT 7.5A Controller :1 Port :9F28 IRQ :0B Status :OK Intel ICH8 SATA Host(8086:2829 rev :03) on PCI 0 :31.2#0 Unit :0 Status :OK SMS :16 LBA NL :126 1.5Gbit :s BPB Model : FUJITSU MHW2120BH OS/2 cant operate your hard disk or diskette drive. Correct the preceding error and restart the system. " Do you have some ideas to solve this problem ??

This is not a complete answer, but is something you can work with as a starting point: I have seen situations where due to hardware setup and partitioning, that a drive letter changes somehow during boot. When this happens, the boot process will stop with your message. This has driven me crazy on more than one occasion. I just can't remember specifically what caused it, only that it started to boot, loaded some of the HD drivers, then wham. There may be issues with your partitioning setup. If you can't get to a point where you can use OS/2's LVM program to create the partition, try a program called DFSEE. You can make a bootable CDROM and DFSEE will create a proper partition layout. I recommend setting your boot partition to HPFS at least until you get this issue sorted out. If you haven't tried disabling busmastering on the driver, do so as a test.
Thanks for your answers. I created a 2GB HPFS partition, active and installable. I tried enabling et disabling busmastering but the error still occurs.
It's also surprising to see that this error exists on XP.
I've changed the settings in the BIOS: "SATA Controller Mode = Compatibility" instead of "AHCI" but no progress.
I know the installation works by using Microsoft Virtual PC but I'll prefer to boot on OS/2.
When you say the error occurs on XP, are you referring to: 1. A native install of XP on the same HD with no other OS installed, or 2. A native install of XP selected by Boot Manager on a second primary partition (os2 on the first) 3. XP under VirtPC? 4. Some other configuration?
I've not used Vitual PC yet, does it require a host OS like VMware, or is it a "mini-os/boot loader"?
Many people reported problems when installation XP on SATA Hard drive. Their solution was to modify the BIOS settings as I've done, by setting a Compatibility mode for the SATA Controller. Unfortunately, It doesn't work.
For my problem, I was said to use the Dani driver danis506r175 ( instead of the 181 version). No success even by using the standard config.sys file.
Virtual PC is just a free tool provied by Microsoft to virtualize OS/2 and other operating systems. VMWare doesn't support OS/2.
No. In fact by searching on the Internet. I've found some people having such an error but with XP installation. They solved the problem by modifying the BIOS setting. I thought that my error was similar and tried the same test.
On my Toshiba Tecra S5, I have got the problem since I use the "restoration system" cd-rom provided with the laptop.
Getting away from OS/2 (which I use on several machines) briefly, it seems very odd to me that the original XP install worked, but yet the restore disk does not. Is this the case, or did I miss something?
If I have this right, it sounds like there may be a hardware issue. Have you replaced the hard drive recently-- possibly with a different model?
I have a dual Opteron system withn an Nforce 3 chipset that boots to a SATA Raptor drive just fine-- other chipsets may vary of course. I *have* had difficulties with SATA- II drives exhibiting intermittent operation with some earlier chipsets-- FYI.
Windows XP is originally installed on the Toshiba Tecra S5 provided by Toshiba. It's a brand-new laptop with no harware modifications.
At the beginning ,I wanted to create a three-boot partitions (OS/2, DOS and XP) on the Toshiba. I've already done this things last year on an HP laptop (IDE hard-drive)without any problems during the installation of OS/2
Now, I'd like to do the same things on a Toshiba Tecra S5 but this time, I can't even install OS/2. So I decided to delete the whole hard-disk and create a small HPFS partition to test the installation.
The chipset,Intel ICH8M, only supported by the package Danis506r181.
