About Laptop OS Installation

Now i have Hp dv6700 model laptop with Windows vista.now i want to make this as dual OS like Windows Xp and Windows Xp-jp (jp-japanese).Is it possible to format my Lap and make it as i wish.Because somebodies told to me this is not possible(Like if u format the OS in Laptop then you can't Install windows xp).So please make me a suitable answer.
