The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Disappearing Media Files

Asked by rovermedia in Operating Systems Network Security, Networking Security Vulnerabilities, Windows Vista

I have two drives on my system...C is system drive, D is media drive for audio and video files.  I have Vista Ultimate as well as Norton Internet Security (firewall/virus), all patched and up to date.

A couple of weeks ago I had some trouble finding some WAV files I was working on.  Now I realize that ALL .wav and .mp3 files are gone from my media drive!  We're talking thousands of files.

I use Adobe Audition to edit audio files, and it creates a .pk file to save visual waveform info.  All the .pk files are still there, but no media files.  For instance: sound.pk is there but sound.wav is gone.

C:\ drive seems unaffected - wav files are still present there.

I just copies some .wav files to the D:\ drive to see what happens.  So far they are still there.  I'm not sure when all the media files disappeared, if it was all at once or over time, or what (I only use them every few weeks).

I did a Google search for "disappearing media files", "disappearing wav files" etc. as well as searching for viruses that could be responsible.  No luck.

Main priorities:

1) Find out cause and stop it
2) Recover media files if possible

Any help greatly appreciated.  Thanks!Start Free Trial
