Looking for utility to change Local Administrator account password on remote Windows boxes

Asked by donander in Windows Network Security Questions

Tags: Microsoft, Windows, 2000, XP, Server, Local Administrator account

Our IT group supports several diverse departments at our organization. We inherited support for one of these when the administrator there retired. The groups have different passwords for the Local Administrator accounts on the Windows workstations.

We would like to be able to change these passwords remotely on groups of machines to standardize the passwords and to change them periodically when IT personnel leave the organization. The ideal tool would allow us to specify a group of machines in an Active Directory OU, specify a password to search for and when found, change that password to a different password we specify. Finding machines via password rather than IP address or NetBIOS or DNS name is preferable because at least two different passwords are in use in one group of machines and we do not know which machines have which password.

The utility doesn't have to be freeware. I would prefer a GUI-based utility.Start Free Trial
