UPS monitoring

I plan on monitoring our UPSes (PowerWare & Liebert) via a serial connection... On DG/UX (OS on our recently retired machines) upsd was bundled with the OS (facilitates monitoring/signaling), but I don't seem to be able to find anything equivalent for AIX (5.2 ML2)....
Is there such a beast as upsd or powerd bundled...?
Or has someone successfully ported/used powerd?
... Or is my only option to use the (cr)aplications furnished by the UPS vendors?
