vim syntax highlighting

trying to set up syntax highlighting for Vim 6.3 on AIX, and when executing :syntax enable, i get the following:

E484: Can't open file /usr/local2/share/vim/syntax/syntax.vim

The /usr/local2/share/vim directory does not exist.....is this created by another package install?
