AIX : OS backup

Experts,
We are running AIX 5.3, we dont have a OS backup in place yet.
I need to figure out all details about OS backup. What is the meaning of OS backup? is it same as mksysb?

By saying OS backup, are we talking about backing the whole rootvg. I understand that rootvg has many filesystems in it, so do we have to backup everything including any paging space if it is on rootvg.

A detailed and quick answer will be appreciated.
