Break the rootvg mirror

Am currently preparing to migrate from AIX 4.3.3 to AIX 5.2
on an IBM 7026-H70.
The rootvg is mirrored on hdisk0 & hdisk1.
Am wanting to break the mirror so that I can install
5.2 on hdisk1 and keep 4.3.3 on hdisk0 in case the 5.2 install fails
I will be able to fall back to 4.3.3.
Does anyone have this entire process documented in easy to follow
directions?  Also would like to know any gotchas.
Have been unable to find a solid proven method.
