I have AIX version 4 CAD computers running CATIA. I tried copying the contents of a folder to a NFS share on my Linux box. The copy was going fine but I ran out of room on the hard drive on my AIX machine. Maybe it buffers to the hard drive? Because I was copying to the Linux machine. Whatever the cause isnt as important as freeing up space on my AIX machine. There is a tmp folder on the AIX machine that I was hoping to use to free up space. I was hoping the contents of the tmp folder is safe to delete. My dilemma is how to know if the files in the tmp directory are being used. Is there a fancy ls switch or ps switch that might help? I dont want to reboot the AIX machine because when the disk is full I have heard it might cause issues on reboot.
