SNMP on IBM AIX server

Asked by 9thTee in IBM AIX Unix, Unix Operating Systems

I have a IBM p630 machine running AIX 5.1.

I am wanting to start monitoring it with Whats Up Gold and I understand that the AIX machine needs to be running SNMP.  How can I tell if this service is already running or how do I turn it on?  Is this a built in command or something that must be added?  Are there different things that can be monitored?  I am interested in CPU/Memory usage, disk info, etc.  Also interested in whether certain services are running.  Also would like to monitor some custom things like some Progress database measurements.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark
