How to configure and test SSH on IBM AIX 5.3

I need to have SSH installed on my IBM AIX machine so that a monitoring program (Solarwinds Orion NPM) running on a windows machine can access it.  I installed OpenSSL and OpenSSH on the IBM AIX 5.3 box.  Is there any configuration that I need to do or does the installation do this for me?  How can I test if SSH is running correctly on the AIX machine?  Also, how do I specify which port the AIX machine is looking for SSH on?  Right now, the windows box is complaining about a communications failure but I do not know how to test this.
