I have installed freebsd for the first time so I'm an extreme newbie. My problems are:
I have installed the kde gui and configured my video card with an 800 by 600 resolution during install. I reinstalled it several times until I hit on the right combo of vdieo card settings, vertical and horizontal refresh rates (I have no idea what they should be. It's a real old monitor (super vga) Finally the kde desktop started with the startx command. The first few times I installed it I got error messages when I ran the startx command. My video card is an ATI and about a year or 2 old but I don't have the specs for it and can't tell by looking at the card what model it is. I guess I could stick it into a windows2000 machine and let it tell me the model. Is there an easier way?
Anyway, now kde starts up but the effect is like looking through a keyhole - very large icons; I can only see a small part of the screen and can't navigate which brings me to problem #2:
My mouse races off to the left upper corner of the screen and stays there. How can I reconfigure these from the command line. Is there a file I can edit without having to run the sysinstall program?
Thanks, Karen
