FreeBSD 6.2 + Samba 3.0.26a
Can Samba mount a DFS share, using \\DOMAIN\dfs, rather than \\COMPUTER\dfs?
The following command successfully lists all the shares on a domain controller, the same as \\DOMAIN does on Windows. One of the shares returned is "dfs" which is the root of my dfs tree:
smbclient -U administrator -L domain.example.com | grep Disk
So, I tried to mount "dfs" using the various commands below (errors are in ""), none of which work. Is this impossible, or am I missing something?

"mount_smbfs: unable to open connection: syserr = Connection reset by peer"
mount //administrator@domain/dfs

It seems to be a FreeBSD issue rather than Samba. Samba is fine with it, FreeBSD however, is not. From what I can find out, FreeBSD mount (in 6.2 anyway) isn't yet ready for dfs - I could be wrong though.
Are you in a position to help with the FreeBSD side of things?

I am still looking for other articles to support this.
I have been able to mount my dfs by adding to fstab:
//domain.com/dfs /mnt/dfs smbfs rw,credentials=/etc/samba/
and then mounting it by
$ mount -t smbfs -a
That mounts it fine, and my dfs links are there, but I'm unable to browse through them at this point. I have a link called public that I would expect to be found at /mnt/dfs/public, but very oddly there is a /mnt/dfs/public/public/pub
ls: reading directory home/home/: Object is remote
I should also mention that I'm not in FreeBSD, I'm using Ubuntu, but I had the same results as you with the mount commands that were in your original post so you might want to try doing it from fstab instead and see if it works for you.

The first thing to check is to see if your samba server can resolve domaincontroller.example.c
