Disk numbering precidence?

Ok, so I setup an areca raid volume, when booting up with no peripherals it comes up as

/dev/da0 and my slice is on /dev/da0s1
so I set it up in fstab to mount from there

I plugged an external hard drive up to transfer some files, then started testing testing power failures with a UPS and noticed that when the computer rebooted with the external plugged in at restart it becomes da0, pushing the raid volume to da1 and invariably breaking the fstab at startup.

So, finally my question, how do I make sure that regardless of peripheral the raid volume gets da0 ?
