hou to save file in VI

i modified my pf.conf file using vi
whats the command to save the changes that i have made
and why does it say that the file is read only
can someone give a step by step help
all i need to do is just modify some ip addresses in the tables
dont need to change anything else
im new to openbsd
does the file allways open in read only ?
or am i doing something wrong

Esc : q - exit

why do u have esc before everry command?

esc is used before commands...

":w!" will save the file even if it is read-only
":wq" will save and exit in most cases just fine

Esc switches between modes - input and movement
: in movement mode brings up command line
w means write file
q meand quit
! means force operation.

One option is to first press esc button then type ZZ (capital letters), this will save your file and then exit.
