Question

How can I see all of my memory in OpenBSD?

I have an OpenBSD server, AMD64, version 4.3 generic, running the bsd.mp kernel.  This OS is running on a Dell PowerEdge 2970 with 2X quad core processors (AMD Opteron's) and 8GB of memory (4 sticks 2GB each). The OS is not seeing all of the memory - it only realizes 3322Mb.  The Dell bios has a "redundant memory" feature and I checked to make sure that this is disabled in addition to "node interleaving."  There is a feature on the bios enabled by default called "memory optimizer technology" but I have not changed this setting.  Everything I read suggests that this OS running the modules indicated should see all 8 gigs of memory.  Is there anything that I have missed or anything that can be configured?  I will attach the dmesg output.

You have to ask on their lists.

Memory you get looks like one you can get on 32bit system -
4G
-device memory
real mem = 3483762688 (3322MB)
-small bits allocated for memory management
avail mem = 3368439808 (3212MB)

This was not related to 32bit.  The install was 64bit.  There were some patches for big mem (4GB+) support for older versions of OpenBSD.  The latest distro version (4.4) does not support it for the AMD 64 MP kernel.  Manually patching my kernel on a machine that was meant to be rock solid, did not excite me.  

My final solution was to instead use FreeBSD.

It is undue limitation by you - all amd64 kernels are MP nowadays.

The amd64 multiprocessor (mp) kernel must be compiled separately.  Still this issue has nothing to do with multiprocessor support.  

bigmem support is not enabled in the OpenBSD 4.4 kernel for AMD64.  It's not configurable at compile time either, so the source has to be tweaked.  The developers report that it is not stable.
