The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Is the target server a new system?  Have you tried it using a different user?  Also, you said you tried to "clean up" known_hosts, but have you tried just removing (or renaming) your known_hosts file?  That error usually indicates that either there's a mismatch between what you have in your known_hosts file and the target.

05.09.2008 at 08:08AM PDT, ID: 21533621
i have rename the file known_hosts  to known_hosts.old and got the same message .

05.09.2008 at 10:05AM PDT, ID: 21534756
can you run ssh in debug mode (ssh -v if you're using openssh) to see if it's getting a host key from the server?    And are you able to ssh to that server from either another user account on the client host, or from a different machine?

Can you try regenerating the keys on both systems (have you changed the ip address of any these systems)?

05.10.2008 at 11:40AM PDT, ID: 21540106
No nothing has been changed the problem lies with one system only and that is running hp-ux 11.11 .
I am not sure what else that needs to be done .

05.10.2008 at 11:41AM PDT, ID: 21540110
I also try to clean the .ssh/known_hots file and i am getting the sam error ...

how do you do that and at what server reciving end or the sending end ..

Rank: Guru

run on both systems

ssh-keygen

05.10.2008 at 11:38PM PDT, ID: 21541632
run:   ssh -v [hostname]

That should give you debugging info.  If you can't decipher it, paste it here and we'll help.

"scp id@system:file  system:/tmp"

a) If you switched user id with 'su', scp may be reading known_hosts file of your original user id
b) are you trying to copy files from one remote host to another remote host from your local machine?

05.12.2008 at 09:35AM PDT, ID: 21548409
I am trying to copy from the host i logged in to and from there to another host .

05.12.2008 at 10:10AM PDT, ID: 21548712
Have you tried the "-v" option yet to get debugging info?

You have mail in /usr/mail/root

Why did you say no to continue connecting?  You have to say yes for it to connect and update known_hosts.

i did say no for only debugg session as i was already on the server ...
