Using Time Machine with a network NAS drive

Hi,

We would like to set up time machine for backups on a network drive. We have used the "hack" to allow Time Machine to use the drive, but when it tries to create backups it fails with the message "the backup disk image could not be created." All software is up to date. How do I fix this?
