Mac Update Problem, Says network not connected, but I am online
Hi, recently I re-formatted my Apple MacBook Pro. I am now getting the following error when I try to d/l updates.
A networking error has occurred: Cannot open file (-3001). Make sure you can connect to the Internet, then try again.
I have tried to delete update file in preferences, I have tried deleting the DB file in users. I ran the permissions fixer on my HD, it found and fixed various permissions problems. Still it is not working. Is there anything else I can do besides reload?

Thanks for the quick response. I have been on several forums about this, this is my "last resort". I have tried to delete that file out of the preferences library as well as the DB file in the updates. Any other suggestions?
I take it you can download other files from other sources without difficulty?

Yes, I can connect to the internet and download files and programs. I have no trouble installing programs or anything like that. I have reset permissions on the HD (it did find some incorrect permissions but says it fixed them). Still didn't fix the problem.

Tried to clear cache with Leopard Cache Cleaner, and it still did not work automatically. I did find however that I was able to install other updates that Apple gave out today, but the 2 that I couldn't load still were failing. I decided to install the two updates manually and it seems everything is working fine now. I'm giving the points on this one to Strung because he found the website that helped me the most.
Thanks!
Thanks!

The actual solution was never found as the automatic updates failed to install the 2 updates in question. It seems that the problem lies with Apple and no one user has answered this particular question correctly. After switching routers, clearing my cache, fixing my permissions, deleting the update database, deleting the update preferences file, I still had no luck with the auto-installer. The solution for me was to download those files manually and install them. I found the problem was only with those two updates, and other updates work correctly through the auto-update system.

The most promising fix was to quit Software Update, then trash the com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.p
