MAC connecting to Windows Server 2003 Shares

Asked by 8eindustrial in Tiger (Mac OS 10.4), Windows 2003 Server

I have a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 10.4.8. I'm trying to connect to shares on a Windows 2003 Server. I'm getting the following message when going through Finder to browse to the server:

"The alias "servername" could not be opened because the original item cannot be found"

alternatively, I get the following when trying to connect to the share from Go > Connect to Server:

"Could not connect to the server because the name or password is not correct."

I have been able to connect by disabling the group policy on the Windows server that forces Digitally signed communications.
