1- MAC OS 10.4 TIGER RUNNING ON A POWERBOOK G4 17 IN. 1GB RAM.  
2- HARD DRIVE: 74.5GB TOSHIBA MK8026GAX ATA INTERNAL SMART VERIFIED. device tree: PCI2/ata-6@D/@0:0

RUNNING NORMALLY UNTIL:
A- TRIED TO INSTALL MAC OX 10.5 LEOPARD ON THIS MACHINE. THE INSTALLER DETERMINED THAT "THIS SOFTWARE CANNOT BE INSTALLED ON THIS COMPUTER". IT THEN ASKED FOR A RESTART. WHEN EXECUTED:
a- THE SYSTEM STARTED UP TO THE GREY SCREEN WITH THE APPLE LOGO AND PROGRESS CIRCLE, THEN WENT TO SHUT DOWN ABRUPTLY.
 ATTEMPTS:
1- WE  STARTED UP AGAIN FROM THE INSTALLER DVD TO GET TO THE DISK UTILITY. AFTER RUNNING VERIFY AND REPAIR THIS WAS THE MESSAGE:
checking catalog file
Keys out of order
..Rebuilding catalog B-Tree
volume HD cannot be repaired.
